পরিচ্ছেদঃ ৩৪: স্ত্রীদের সাথে সদ্ব্যবহার করার অসিয়ত
৫/২৮২। মুআবিয়াহ ইবনু হাইদাহ রাদিয়াল্লাহু ’আনহু বলেন যে, আমি রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম-কে বললাম, ’হে আল্লাহর রাসূল! আমাদের কারো স্ত্রীর অধিকার স্বামীর উপর কতটুকু?’ তিনি বললেন, ’’তুমি খেলে তাকে খাওয়াবে এবং তুমি পরলে তাকে পরাবে। (তার) চেহারায় মারবে না, তাকে ’কুৎসিত হ’ বলবে না এবং তার থেকে পৃথক থাকলে বাড়ীর ভিতরেই থাকবে।’’ (অর্থাৎ অবাধ্য স্ত্রীকে বাধ্য করার জন্য বিছানা পৃথক করতে পারা যাবে, কিন্তু রুম পৃথক করা যাবে না।) (আবূ দাউদ, হাসান সূত্রে) [1]
* ’কুৎসিত হ’ বলবে নাঃ অর্থাৎ ’আল্লাহ তোমাকে কুৎসিত করুক’ বলে অভিশাপ দেবে না।
بَابُ الوَصِيَّةِ بِالنِّسَاءِ - (34)
وَعَن مُعَاوِيَةَ بنِ حَيدَةَ رضي الله عنه، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ الله، مَا حَقُّ زَوجَةِ أَحَدِنَا عَلَيهِ ؟ قَالَ: «أنْ تُطْعِمَهَا إِذَا طعِمْتَ، وَتَكْسُوهَا إِذَا اكْتَسَيْتَ، وَلاَ تَضْرِبِ الوَجْهَ، وَلا تُقَبِّحْ، وَلا تَهْجُرْ إلاَّ في البَيْتِ».حديثٌ حسنٌ رواه أَبُو داود وَقالَ : معنى «لا تُقَبِّحْ»أي : لا تقل : قبحكِ الله .
(34) Chapter: Recommendations with regard to Women
Mu'awiyah bin Haidah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I asked Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "What right can any wife demand of her husband?" He replied, "You should give her food when you eat, clothe her when you clothe yourself, not strike her on the face, and do not revile her or separate from her except in the house".

Commentary: If it comes to temporarily severing relation with a disobedient wife to set her right, it should be done within the house and the best course for it is that one suspends the practice of sleeping with her. Some people say that this suspension should be to the extent of sleeping with her only and one should not stop speaking to her because that will increase the rift between the two. But in case of special circumstances, one can separate from her by leaving his home, as was done by the Prophet (PBUH) by shifting to upper room of his house.
